Ada P. Kahn, Ph.D. has had extensive experience in writing health-related materials. In addition to authoring more than 12 books, she served as Manager, Community Health Education, Rush North Shore Medical Center, Skokie, IL, for ten years and has worked with the American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, and Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. She has worked for public relations agencies and publishers in editorial capacities.
She is a Fellow of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), a recipient of the AMWA President's Award, and a past president of the
Greater Chicago Area Chapter of AMWA. She has presented workshops and programs at more than 24 national AMWA conferences. In 2008, (Louisville, KY), she presented "Using Local Cable Access Television." In 2006, (Albuquerque, NM) Ada presented "Stress in the Global Workplace" and moderated a panel discussion on "Safety and Health at Work and at Home." In 2004, (St. Louis, MO), she presented "Coping With Stress and Presentation Anxiety" and "Preparing Book Proposals."
Ada served as chief judge in the Margaret Mead Journalism Award competitions sponsored by AMWA and Eli Lilly and Company; she presented awards to winners in Vienna, Berlin, and St. Louis in 1997, 1998 and 1999.
Writers' Groups
Ada is a member of the Midwest Writers Association, American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Authors' Guild, the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) and the Illinois Woman's Press Association (IWPA). She has won numerous awards from the AMWA and the IPWA.
Rotary International
Ada is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians
(IFRM) and writes a column for the fellowship's newsletter. See www.ifrm.org. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Evanston
and is Music Chair.
Music Activities
Ada is President (2009-2010) of the Evanston Music Club and a member of the North Shore Musicians Club and the Highland Park Music Club. She plays flute with the Community Symphony Orchestra of The Music Institute of Chicago. She has performed with guitarist Larry Ege, pianists Joanne Stucka, Susan
Cua, Shirley Levis,
Beatriz Levi, Aryeh Kitzes and violinists Margarita Solomensky and Mary Stoltz.
Ada is a member of the National Flute Association (NFA); in August, 2004, she presented a program at the NFA convention (Nashville, TN) on "Coping With Stress and Performance Anxiety." She is also a member of the Chicago Flute Club and the Amateur Chamber Music Players (ACMP).
Television Productions
She is Vice President (2008-2011) of the Evanston Community Media Center (ECMC) and produces a program called "Keeping The Beat," based on her book, Keeping The Beat: Healthy Aging Through Amateur Chamber Music Playing. The show is aired on Channel 6, Evanston, IL. In May, 2008, her show received an "outstanding achievement" award from the Illinois Woman's Press Association. See www.keepingthebeat.com. Civic Service
In May, 2008 she was appointed to the Evanston Mental Health Board, Evanston IL. She served on the Skokie, IL Board of Health for 15 years.
